Finlandia Sauna Products, Inc., provides prefabricated modular, free standing saunas (FPF) and precut (FPC) packages in a variety of woods; including benches, door, heater, heater fence, headrest, backrest, trim and base, Super Dek sanitary removable flooring, and accessories.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

1. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
2. Product Data:  Manufacturer's descriptive literature for saunas and components specified in this section.
3. Shop Drawings: Plan and elevations of sauna design, indicating construction details.
4. Samples:  Two samples, minimum size 4 inches wide by 8 inches long, of specified materials for wood paneling.
5. Manufacturer's printed installation instructions for sauna, benches, and accessories.
6. Operation and Maintenance Data:  Sauna enclosure, heater, and control.
7. Warranty documents:  Issued and executed by manufacturer.

1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

1. Store products of this section in manufacturer's unopened packaging until installation.
2. Maintain dry, heated storage area for products of this section until installation of products.

1.5 WARRANTY

1. Manufacturer's Warranty:  One-year on room materials and workmanship when installed according to manufacturer's specifications and 1 year on heater parts and 5 years factory labor when heater is installed according to wiring instructions.

PART 2  PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2. Substitutions:   Not permitted.
3. Provide all saunas and accessories from a single manufacturer.

2.2 MANUFACTURED UNITS

NOTE** Retain one of the following paragraphs, completing model number designation and size.  Custom sizes are available for precut saunas; select standard sizes seating up to 12 people for precut and prefab saunas from manufacturer's literature.  Coordinate with SECTION INCLUDES Article in PART 1 of this section.

NOTE** Precut sauna packages require a framed insulated space and a washable floor.

2.3 COMPONENTS

NOTE** Retain or edit one of the following paragraphs; coordinate with RELATED SECTIONS Article in PART 1 of this section.

1. Sub-Floor:  Specified in Section 03300.

NOTE** Manufacturer recommends dry Douglas Fir, construction grade no.1 or 2, spaced 16 inches on center, with bottom of ceiling joists 7 feet above finished floor. Use pressure-treated plates against concrete.

4. Wall and Ceiling Framing:  Specified in Section 06100
5. Wall and Ceiling Insulation:  Specified  in Section 07210.
6. Wall and Ceiling Vapor Barrier:  Type C Building Foil.
7. Interior Wall and Ceiling Finish:  Board paneling of nominal 1 inch by 4 inches kiln-dried softwood lumber; small V-joint tongue-and-groove. Wall boards to run horizontally installed using blind nailed method.

NOTE** Select one of the following four wood species.

Western Red Cedar has the most color variation, a refreshing aroma, and is dry-rot resistant; as the softest wood, it is least hot to sit on or lean against. California Redwood is the most fire-resistant, dry-rot resistant, termite resistant, and does not warp. Alaska Yellow Cedar is an exclusive white wood, has a pungent aroma, and is silky to the touch. Western Hemlock is excellent for people who have wood allergies or are chemically sensitive, since it has no aroma and no resins.

1. Species:  Western Red Cedar, clear.
2. Species:  California Redwood, clear, vertical grain.
3. Species:  Alaska Yellow Cedar, clear.
4. Species:  Western Hemlock, clear.
5. Lengths:  As required for single board length runs; end-to-end joints not permitted except in very large rooms.

8. Flooring:  "Super Dek" flooring squares for walking areas over concrete, tile, or vinyl; removable, washable, sanitary, non-skid, synthetic material.
9. Prehung Doors and Frames: (Sauna Doors Must Swing Out)
   6. Door Rails:  One-piece vertical grain Oregon Douglas Fir, machined for integral stop.

NOTE**  Retain one of the following subparagraphs.

Standard door size is 2 feet by 6 feet 8 inches; 3 foot wide doors are ADA compliant.

1. Door size:  2 feet wide by 6 feet 8 inches. R.O. 26 inches by 82 inches.
2. Door size:  3 feet wide by 6 feet 8 inches. R.O. 38 inches by 82 inches.

7. Glass:  Hermetically-sealed double glass, tempered.NOTE ** Delete all but one of the following three subparagraphs.  Clear glass is standard in the Precut (FPC) and prefab (FPF) saunas.  Etched glass is an exclusive option, with negative image for maximum privacy.
8. Casing, Jamb, and Threshold:  Spruce, Redwood, Fir or Hemlock, S4S, maximum 11 percent moisture content, jamb machined for integral stop.
9. Hinges:  Three 4-inch by 4-inch butts.
10. Ball Catch:  Ives MP347B3.
11. Door Pulls:  Two wood pulls 080 each door

NOTE** If a fire sprinkler is required at the sauna, the head should be set at 275 degrees F (135 degrees C) or higher and should not be located over the sauna heater. It will also be necessary to ascertain the elevation above sea level for the sauna when ordering.

10. Sauna Heaters:  Three-wall pressed metal construction, stainless steel heating elements, large rock capacity, direct rock contact with heating elements, free air flow; UL tested and listed.

NOTE** Select heater type and model number from the heater chart located on this site.

11. Heater Fence:  S4S, kiln-dried clear vertical grain, 2 by 2 (1-5/8 inches by 1-5/8 inches). Fence size for wall mounted heater, allow for 16 inches by 26 inches. Floor heater fence, allow for 30 inches by 30 inches.
12. Benches:  S4S, kiln-dried clear vertical grain, 2 by 2 (1-5/8 inches by 1-5/8 inches) tops with 1/2 inch nominal spacing; eased edges to eliminate sharp angles. (See bench comparisons on this site.)
    1. Facings:  2 by 4 (1-5/8 inches by 3-1/2 inches) of same material as bench tops, eased edges.
    2. Trim: Wood species to match room paneling.

13. Fasteners: Stainless and galvanized, applied from the  bottom to eliminate exposed metal; exposed nails countersunk and filled.
14. Vents:  4 inches by 10 inches. White baked enamel.  R.O. size for vents is 3 3/4 inches by 9 3/4 inches.NOTE ** Include the following two subparagraphs only for prefab saunas
    1. Lower:  Provided for lower wall location.  Placed approximately 4" off floor as close to heater as possible.
    2. Upper:  Provided for upper wall location.  (1) Vent Placed from 24" off the floor to 6" from ceiling on appropriate wall.  Do not locate over upper bench.

15. Light:  Vapor-proof, wall-mounted, Progress P5511, satin finish cast aluminum, 75 watts.

PART 3  EXECUTION

1. Verify that electrical services are of correct type and in correct locations.
2. Verify that construction activities affecting work of this section are correct and complete.
3. Examine walls, floors, and ceiling for suitable conditions where sauna is to be installed.

NOTE**  Retain the following paragraphs that apply.

1. Submit written notification if such conditions are unacceptable.
2. Transmit two copies of installer's report to Architect within 24 hours of receipt.
3. Beginning work of this section before unacceptable conditions have been corrected is prohibited.
4. Beginning construction activities of this section indicates installer's acceptance of conditions.

3.2 INSTALLATION

1. Install saunas and accessories in accordance with shop drawings and manufacturer's printed installation instructions.
2. Connection of heater, lighting, and control, to electrical service is specified in Finlandia wiring instructions.

3.3 CLEANING

1. Clean and restore soiled surfaces prior to acceptance.

3.4 PROTECTION OF INSTALLED PRODUCTS

1. Protect sauna and components from damage to finishes and operation until Substantial Completion.
